Introduction My name is Melanie Lyons and I am studying graphic design at Towson University. In addition, I am currently working as both a freelance designer and a graphic designer for Towson's Student Activities Office. In addition, I also hold the position of the marketing chair of a student-run media production society at the University.
My Approach My approach to design is based on clearly communicating the message of the project, organizing the information in the clearest possible way, and presenting it in a format that is both appropriate and meaningful for the client and audience for whom it is intended. At this point in my education, I am continuously pushing myself to try learn new techniques and styles and integrate them into my work.
Problem-Solving I enjoy the problem-solving aspects of design, thinking through the needs and goals of each project. I always have a reason for what I incorporate into my designs; nothing is added without a purpose. I strive for excellence in my work and give all of my designs thoughtful attention to detail, while at the same time, keeping deadlines and budgets in mind.
In the Future In the future, I hope to use my designs and the messages they convey to help people and further social change. As a member of a family that includes many artists and activists, I am inspired by artists and designers who are able to imbue their art with meaning.
